LeapNYC Charity Event

This time of year you are usually greeted with an e-mail, tweet, BBM blast or face book message that includes a “Save the date” reminder for my May (5.2) birthday celebration. March madness commences with me contemplating a perfect venue, atmosphere and theme to make my birthday celebration memorable. Previous festivities were spent amongst friends, family, co-workers and my social networker’s enjoying each other’s company, good food and music but I’ve decided to add a twist to this year’s celebration that I would like to call “A Toast for a Cause”.

The catalyst behind this fundraising celebration is my fourteen year friendship with my right hand Ebony (ICandie_Eb). Through the years Ebony and I have experienced many triumphs and failures together that has strengthened our relationship and taught us so much about ourselves. Unfortunately, in 2004 Ebony lost her younger brother Neil “Noonie” Nichols to gun violence. Neil was 20 years young at the time of his passing and like many youth in our communities’ poor decision making and negative influences led to his untimely death. The idea for “A Toast for a cause” was born in my quest to honor the memory of all of our loved ones that we lost too soon to senseless violence. I teamed up with your favorite promoter Jay Gambino of TD Group and after researching and meeting with different charities we’ve decided to work with LeapNYC. (www.LeapNyc.Org)

LeapNYC is a not-for-profit educational services organization working with 450 schools, shelters and community organizations) for its work in developing and implementing innovative programs to stimulate curiosity, foster creativity, and improve students’ academic performance from PreK through High School. In addition to their work with children, they lead professional development workshops with teachers and facilitate parent engagement activities. Their programs are customized according to each classroom and the community needs. I believe their programs have a positive impact on the community and as such have decided to raise money and awareness to help them continue the great work.
